Description:
Swirling black descends like ravens, large enough to block the glow of the streetlights. A dull roar starts like a train on the 'L', a far-away rumbling that grows louder as it pulls closer, until it's directly overhead and you feel it in your chest, except this doesn't pass you by. Verity, white-faced and eyes blazing, shouts through the din, "Run, Mo!"
Mo Fitzgerald knows about secrets. But when she witnesses her best friend's murder, she discovers Verity was hiding things she never could have guessed. To find the answers she needs and the vengeance she craves, Mo—quiet, ordinary, unmagical Mo—will have to enter a world of raw magic and shifting alliances. And she'll have to choose between two very different, equally dangerous guys—protective, duty-bound Colin and brash, mysterious Luc. One wants to save her, one wants to claim her. Which would you choose?
My Thoughts:
Whew, let me take a breather here. Torn is an amazing ride that never quits, and to be honest, I never wanted it to. I started this book late one night and stayed up until the sun came out I was so hooked on reading it.
I enjoyed Mo, and I even (Gasp!) enjoyed the love triangle between Mo, Colin and Luc! I'm one of those who is getting a little tired of the triangle business, but this one doesn't disappoint. In fact, I even liked both characters enough that I would have been okay if she ended up with either of them. Not to mention they are pretty hot in their own ways!
I liked that Mo was smart, that she wasn't some weakling, and I liked the cool mob ties that were added in too. Mob ties? In a YA? Believe me, it's creative and refreshing in this giant field of fantasy YA.
I really enjoyed the mystery to it as well. What was Mo's best friend Verity really hiding? Oh, I'll never tell. But it's an added bonus along the romance and suspense that I absolutely loved.
You've got mystery, romance, fantasy, action and suspense. You've got mob ties, love triangles, prophesy and magic.
Everything I wanted was in this YA. I couldn't get enough, and I think you'll feel the same way with Torn. If you're a fan of the fantasy YA...scratch that...if you're a fan of YA at all, read this one!

ReplyDeleteI have not heard of anything about this book, to be honest. Though hearing you said that even the love triangle in this book is interesting, that sort of pique my interest! Like you, I'm also tired of love triangle thing but knowing that you love it convinced me that it must be great :D
ReplyDeleteI adore your reviews! I love how you throw in how likable the MC is, because to me, that makes or breaks a novel! Will definitely be adding this to my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you get a chance, check out my new blog: andreahannah.blogspot.com. I'm a writer, too :)
